For Christian lay people and the professional pastor or Bible scholar who has gotten too near the tree to see the forest. On a scholarly level, I give it two stars. On a genuinely human and sincerely Christian level, I give it five. Overall, I give it four stars for multiple reasons.First of all, I am trained as a Bible scholar and Pastor, so I am accustomed to more than off the cuff, first impression kinds of things. I am also interested on a personal level in the issues themselves that James confronts, the reasons he says what he says, because these things help us understand the reasons he says some of . The author does a great job giving his fresh perspective of how the scriptures from the book of James move him to a deeper relationship with Christ. It's refreshing to read commentary from "non-seminary" authors. Buy this book if you are looking for a great way to have a devotional and feel like someone (Kurt) is on the journey with you.. "Thought provoking!" according to Gypsy&Ash. I found that this short book which walks us through the Letter of James in the New Testament a nice bible companion to trigger my own search for meaning from the biblical text. I got me thinking about temptation, favoritism, wisdom and effective prayer. Just in time for Lent.
