DESCRIPTION:
His brother suggests an advertisement in the papers, but the Duke refuses to consider it - until a wine-fueled evening when he pens one in jest. Her half-brother, without her knowledge, had answered the advertisement in her name, leading to an announcement of her upcoming wedding in the papers. The new Duke of Torringford must take a wife in three weeks or lose the country estate he's unexpectedly inherited. Now with the ad printed, the Duke is mortified - but that's when the lovely Miss Penelope Hastings enters his life. Penelope knows her honor will be ruined if she backs out, so she agrees, insisting it will be a marriage in name only - that is, until the warm smile of her husband makes her heart start to pound.
Sweet marriage of convenience story Kimberlee Jewell This was a well written novella, sweet and clean. Please disregard the blurb, as it is full of inaccuracies ~ our hero is Marcus Heywood, gentleman farmer and breeder of hunting dogs. He is also, reluctantly, the new Duke of Torrington. He must marry by his 30th birthday (less than a month away) or he will lose the un-entailed property and personal fortune of the previous Duke. Also the previous heir, now deceased, left a debt of 100,000 pounds, which Marcus cannot hope to pay off, so he resigns himself to marriage. A drunken jest with his brother, and a mix-up result in an advertisement in the n. What a little gem I'm mystified by the negative reviews, honestly. Perhaps it's the lingering effects of my recent book drought but I seriously loved this book. It's a shortish story and written very much in the traditional style. I totally love a marriage of convenience story so when I came across this one for free, I took a chance. I'm so glad I did. Basically the H is the new Duke after a distant relation dies and he unexpectedly inherits. He wasn't keen on being a Duke as he was happy with his life in the Highlands, breeding and raising hunting beagles:) He is faced with a quandary when he is required to marry. Kindle Customer said Could have been better. This is the first book I've read by Patricia Bray. While she has some talent, I would have preferred more specific details in her writing, such as specific events that brought the couple closer together; what exactly made them fall in love. When they decided to consumate their marriage of convenience, (there were no sex details) it seemed they decided it was a good idea in order to produce children -- no love there. There was no real courting or wooing. I'd have preferred to read a couple of flirty or witty conversations, some "date" type activities, and/or some twists. Not much of any of that. I
