A Book by a Recovering Fundamentalist As someone who used to appreciate Mclaren's work, I was fascinated by the topic of this book. However, I'm disappointed. This book does serve a specific audience Mclaren is addressing--the White Christian Fundamentalists. The first few chapters paint the dark picture of Christian Fundamentalism, nothing new to me, but I see it's necessary to set the starting point of this (or his) great migration. But, my question was, since I'm not a White Christian Fundamentalist, where I fall in this migration.He sums up hi. Brewdaddy said Incredibly motivating and uplifting. Many of us in the church today are finding ourselves wondering how we can go forward from here. Away from the hypocrisy and divisiveness that seem to be overwhelming the whole Christian Faith.McLaren offers us hope, not with a plan or a map to a better way, but with a conversation about what that better way needs to be. His use of metaphor to express the shift already occurring, not just in Christianity but across the spectrum of spirituality, is uplifting, informative, and motivational.The study questions aft. Randal Martin said Excellent view on the direction Christianity should be headed. The Book is extremely well written. Some of the concepts are challenging for a recovering Baptist like myself. The best thing about purple like Brian McLaren and other members of the Progressive Christianity movement is that you don't have to believe ever single statement they make. As Brian says in the book, "Our problem isn’t simply a matter of having the wrong beliefs. It’s a matter of believing that right beliefs are what matters most." This book is liberating.
