The book presents 3 different methods to alter a pattern: pivot, slash, and seam. Although the book demonstrates all three alteration methods on every possible change you might want to make to a pattern, you can tell that the authors actually prefer the seam method. I see why, it is so easy to get patterns that fit by using this method. I followed the author's tip about backing the pattern with cheap fusible interfacing, marked my seam lines, cut them as described/pictured, repositioned, and viola, the alteration is done. (I did use the Palmer-Plet. different methods to alter a pattern: pivot, slash, and seam. Although the book demonstrates all three alteration methods on every possible change you might want to make to a pattern, you can tell that the authors actually prefer the seam method. I see why, it is so easy to get patterns that fit by using this method. I followed the author's tip about backing the pattern with cheap fusible interfacing, marked my seam lines, cut them as described/pictured, repositioned, and viola, the alteration is done. (I did use the Palmer-Plet. "Great book, poor binding" according to S.G. Due to the high price of this book, it took a while for me to sum up the courage to get it. But get it I did--eventually. For me, its a must have for anyone who wants to design garments for as many body types and variations as possible, which is one of my goals. Even though I just got the book a couple of weeks ago. I am already benefitting from all the important information it provides especially on the Elements and Principles of design, which are essential to creating great design and fit.What I find baffling though is the quality of the book, especially in terms of the binding.I am only at page 20 but the book is co
