Some series resolve at the end of each installment but others leave lots of loose ends. There is a relationship "cliff hanger" at the end of Book 2, so to know who is chosen, it will mean reading at least Book 3 unless it is dragged out even longer.It's also hard to imagine that little, remote Rock Harbor, MI, is going to have so many life threatening crises for Bree, the amateur detective, to help solve.
