I have had a special interest in authentic Native American fiction and nonfiction my whole life because I was born on the Ute Reservation in Northeastern Utah. This book is a compilation of Native American (especially North Dakota Souix) wisdom and tales. It also contains a few excerpts from speeches spoken by a few of the noblest, wisest and best leaders to ever grace this continent. A lot of the material here can be found in other books about Native American ideas but in this book Newburn has organized the excerpts by general subject matter so the reader gets a sense of the overall context that generated the thought(s) that, in turn, generated the ideas expressed. This adds a level of accuracy to the interpretation of passages that many other books simply don't achieve.
