DESCRIPTION:
Dante's The Divine Comedy is one of the most influential works of Western literature. Published shortly after Dante's death in 1321, it is a remarkable vision of a man's journey down into Inferno, then to the limbo of Purgatory where Man pays penance while awaiting redemption, and finally to the bliss of Paradise. It has retained its power and its poetic impulse over seven centuries.
I am so glad that I bought this CD I am so glad that I bought this CD. I have become enchanted by The Divine Comedy which I discovered recently, around a month ago. Download the poem but it was too difficult for me to understand it. Then watched some youtube video which cover canto by canto in italian and show english text. One of the commenters suggested this CD and I am so thankful to have it now. Divine Comedy is surely an epic and a must for a spiritual seeker. Has many levels of wisdom hidden in it. Thank you very much. I would like to see the transcription of it so that I can read it too. If the sellers have it please let us know. Thanks.. Bad recording of a Great Book Richard Scott While the actor, Heathecote Williams, clearly can read, either he was a poor choice for this task, or the producers of this audio version had no experience with audio books. The production quality of this recording is terrible. I purchase a lot of audio books, but seldom have I had such a horrible listening experience. The actor speaks in a droning monitone and then starts to yell in a high-pitched and squeaky voice.I would suggest that you read this book rather than listen to this badly produced set of discs.. DVD or Cassette????? Good audio but I had to find a cassette player for this to work. Who would have thought people were still selling cassette's?? That's what I get for going low cost.No I wasn't real happy. Discription said audio book, maybe I should of asked some questions first.

From AudioFile Dante wanted everyone to read his great work and share his vision, not just the clergy; so he wrote it, not in Latin, but in the Italian of his Florentine home. Dante would be pleased, then, with Naxos's production of his epic masterpiece. Though an abridgment, it is a package the author would be most happy with, for it makes the rich poetry of his Comedy, not just readable, but accessible and relevant to the madness of our time. As a result, it became the defining work for the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. They have taken an impressive new translation by Benedict Flynn; enlisted a skilled actor--Heathcote Williams--to narrate; punctuated each canto with hauntingly beautiful medieval chants; added a short but vital biography of Dante, narrated by John Shrapnel; and, finally, provided wr
