DESCRIPTION:

StevedorStan said Artistry makes up for the lack of detail. I agree with the review that states the book is light on technical information. But for what this genre represents (lots of color photos, summaries of technique, and then a bunch of "step by step" - where the steps are pretty darn general - projects) this book is pretty swell. The projects are far more interesting than the very similar "Artisan Welding Projects" (from the same publisher, I believe). The main advantage, is that the author is an artist; he covers some beautiful and downright inspiring projects. Some of his tips on project visualization and layout were useful, too. But it is definitely a beginner. "New to Metals?" according to Jon H. This is a great book if you are fairly new to metals. It is a little more involved than I would suggest for a person just starting out. If you have had some experience with working with metal at all it will make a lot more sense to you It covers a wide range of topics and techniques very well. Explanations and graphics are excellent. I would recommend this book to anyone htat is more than just interested in working with metals.. Five Stars Patrick Hepburn Incredible book!!!

“this lovely and unique book is highly recommended.”Library Journal (NY)

A variety of beautiful and useful objects are shown as they are being made in a series of step-by-step photos. Metal is an unusually satisfying medium for many artists, but working in metal requires a considerable amount of specialized knowledge and practical skill. It makes a fine textbook for apprentice metalworking artists, presenting a basic overview of the science of metallurgy, then discussing needed tools, safety equipment, and metalworking methods
