E. B. said A rare perspective on a momentous event. Written right after the riots from the POV of an African-American insider (who worked for the police commissioner) this book gives you an important perspective on how law enforcement (well, maybe not the average bigoted white cop on the street) viewed the events of the riots. Hubert Locke is thoughtful and occasionally critical, though he does defend most of Mayor Cavanaugh's administration and the police department for most of their decisions and actions. His is a rare perspective as a black man who also is "The Man." Definitely recommended.. Great Historical Document written at the time of events This report (written at the time of events happening) captures information and data not likely reported in post writeups. Provides a great perspective of one living the events and better analysis of what events occured and, the nature of those events within the right context.. excellent read Wesley Horton Interesting picture and story of what happens when liberals assume power and the results of their idiocy. The detroit riots were as much a function of government and its complacency in the riot. Treatment is a bit lightweight, but it highlights how uneducated and easily manipulable masses can be incited to burn and destroy their own homes and communities. The issue of blind pigs comes up .and its not talking about sight challenged police officers.
