Early in his career, Hopper turned to making etchings in which he registered fine gradations of luminosity. I am very much interested in light, trying to paint sunlight without eliminating the form under it, if I can. In later paintings he applied this skill to atmospheric studies of land and sea, of dwellings both humble and grand, and of the introspective people who inhabit them.. American realist Edward Hopper (1882 1967) built his paintings around light. I like long shadows and early and late sunlight
